Sarah Blacker – “Shiver”

We are proud to have Sarah Blacker’s “Shiver” for our closing credits. Voted “Female Performer of the Year” at the 2013 New England Music Awards (NEMA), Sarah is a current nominee for Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year (“Shiver”) for this year’s 2014 NEMA event. Her heart-felt version of songwriting has been coined, “Sundress rock,” and she was recently called “one of the brighter artists to grab our attention recently,” by national Roots publication, No Depression. Sarah Blacker’s music has been featured on the MTV shows, Jersey Shore & Friendzone. In just three years, she has garnered these accolades, performed at SXSW, CMJ and a sold-out tour of Germany, and has shared the stage with America, 10,000 Maniacs, Rusted Root, Paula Cole, The Wood Brothers, Sara Bareilles, Jason Isbell, Carbon Leaf, and Anais Mitchell to name just a few. Duke Levine – “It Was a Dark and Stormy Night” and “Waltz of the Titans”

“Blessid” is honored to have two original tracks by Duke Levine in our film. An iconic figure on both the New England and national music scene, Duke has spent the past decade recording and touring with artists as diverse as Peter Wolf, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Aimee Mann, and has been an in-demand session player, recording with Graham Parker, Kathy Mattea, Otis Rush, Jonatha Brooke, to name just a few. He’s performed with the Boston Pops, backing Bono and Yo Yo Ma, and he has joined artists on the Grammy Awards, the Superbowl Pre-game Show, Austin City Limits, Soundstage, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brian and The Today Show. His playing can be heard on dozens of film and television scores (The Opposite Of Sex, Passion Fish, Lone Star, The American Experience, Rescue Me), and Duke’s work has been recognized by the Boston Music Awards (“Unsung Hero” of 2006; “Outstanding Instrumentalist” of 1995). The Jinxes – “If You Want (the buh bah song)”

When we first heard this tune on Twitter, we couldn’t get it out of our head. We are pleased to have this catchy song as part of Blessid’s music tracks. The Jinxes, Kevin Smith and Deanna Ross, first met in 2008 at a Monterey Bay Area open mic and, over the months, came to recognize a musical like-mindedness. In 2009 they founded a local songwriters’ group and began to collaborate on songs. By late 2010, they had created an indie folk-pop band of their own, The Jinxes – while also falling madly in love – and they haven’t looked back since! Official Site | YouTube

Jason Shaw – “Plantation”

Jason Shaw was born in Pittsburgh PA years ago and grew up listening to all sorts of music in the backseat of his parents’ car on Sunday drives. His father would flip the radio from rock to country to classical. He seemed to love all kinds of music, and he infected Jason with that too! Official Site | Listen Now

Joe Graham – Big Crush Records/Co-Founder New England Music Awards

Promoter Joe Graham is to the New England music scene what Dick Clark was to New Years in Times Square. “JoeG” is a co-founder of the New England Music Awards – the Grammys of New England – as well as a Manager at boutique music label Big Crush Records representing emerging talent such as Sarah Borrello, Sarah Blacker, Nemes and many more. Previously Joe had his own radio program at WNBR in Cambridge where he cultivated a huge network of music industry connections. Joe has been a great supporter of Blessid, giving us access to Sarah Blacker and her amazing single “Shiver” as well as inviting us to share a clip of Blessid and present an award at the 2014 NEMA event to be held at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on Saturday, February 22nd. People like JoeG help make indie happen, and we’re happy to have him on our team!
